À propos deHermès
episode1The History of Hermès
Hermès started in 1837 as an equestrian equipment workshop. The founder, Thierry Hermès, made harnesses for the elite of the time, including French and Russian nobility. He had a reputation as an expert craftsman who produced high-quality harnesses. By the third generation, Emile Hermès, anticipating changing times, transitioned from leather harnesses to everyday leather goods. These goods incorporated the same skills passed down by generations of leatherworkers, and the resulting products were greatly admired. Through this transition, the brand started building a reputation as an elite high-end leatherworker. As the 20th century continued, Hermès expanded into the world of fashion, greatly expanding their range of products to include goods like watches and perfumes. These products maintained the ability to continuously provide luxury at an affordable price, a trait loved by Hermès patrons.
episode2Characteristics of Hermès
Hermès as a brand is built on the knowledge passed down by generations of craftsmen. The value of this process is reflected in the quality of Hermès' goods and is undoubtedly a key to Hermès' appeal. Even for a high-end brand, Hermès is recognised as being among the best in terms of quality. A testament to the expert craftsmanship of Hermès products can be seen in their brand-leading bags. From start to finish, each bag will only ever be worked on by a single craftsman. As a display of their confidence in their process, each individual craftsman can be identified by a unique number or symbol. Further evidence can be found in their selection of materials which displays a deep familiarity with leather acquired over their long history. Consistent design is another characteristic of Hermès. This consistency allows one to coordinate an outfit assembled solely from Hermès pieces. Taken individually, pieces can be easily integrated into outfits as accent pieces due to their ease of recognition.
episode3A Chance Encounter that Birthed the Bag
Hermès is known for their bags, but even among their selection, one bag, in particular, looms tall—The Birkin. As the story goes, it was a chance encounter that led to the creation of the Birkin. The year is 1984, and the 5th generation and acting president of Hermès, Jean-Louis Dumas, is sitting next to singer Jane Birkin on a flight to London. Birkin had with her a straw bag filled to the brim. The sight of the singer and the inadequacy of her straw bag would lead Dumas to offer to design a bag that could meet the needs of Ms Birkin. Thus, Dumas set off to design a new bag using the brand's Haut à courroies as a starting point. When finished, Dumas would take Jane Birkin's surname as the name for the bag.

Hermès Birkin
The Birkin bag is the signature Hermès handbag. The story behind the Birkin bag is that of a chance meeting between the acting president, Jean-Louis Dumas, who was seated next to actress Jane Birkin on a flight to London. Dumas would offer to design the bag to meet the needs of the young actress. What was born was a bag based on the Hermès equestrian bag, the Haut à courroies. In its original design, it used the rare heritage leather that has a transparent finish and grows more beautiful over time. The Birkin comes in a wide range of sizes, with the Birkin 30 being popular in Japan. Popular colours include the easy-for-everyday-use black and the versatile neutral Etoupe.

Hermès Kelly
The Kelly is a bag of similar popularity to the Birkin. Originally called the Sac à Dépêches, the Kelly started as a smaller version of the 1892 Haut à courroies. The bag was renamed in 1977 after Princess of Monaco and famed actress Grace Kelly, who was featured on the cover of Life Magazine holding the bag in 1956. A defining feature of the bag is its single handle. From its simple shape, the bag comes in a variety of designs with variations in colour, material, sewing, and metal fixtures. Sizes range from Kelly 15 to Kelly 50. The easy-to-handle 25-35 range of sizes are particularly popular. From size 25 and up, the bag can also be fitted with a shoulder strap for added functionality.

Hermès
The Kelly Doll is a bag that was produced as a commemorative item in 2000, with limited production. Based on brand staple Kelly, the Kelly Doll is currently only available through custom order. As the name implies, the bag is modelled after the Kelly with added doll-like features. It is a fan favourite while also being perfectly functional as a small-sized handbag. Because of its limited supply, the Kelly Doll has seen a marked rise in prices. Sought-after colours include orange, gulliver rogue, blue royale, apple green, black, brown, and graphite.

Hermès Bolide
The Bolide is up there with the Kelly and the Birkin as a top Hermès bag that has been loved for decades. The 1923 bag carried the original name le Sac pour l'auto, which was later changed to the modern Bolide in 1983. In a world of bags closed by clasps and belts, the Bolide's zipper design was state-of-the-art at the time. The Bolide is a 2-way bag featuring a detachable strap lending to its reputation for functionality. For formal occasions, popular Bolide colours include etoupe, black and etain. Blue electric, rose confetti, and nata are also popular Bolide colours.

Hermès Garden Party
The Garden Party bag is one of Hermès' most casual bags. Released in 1964, the bag was created to hold gardening items as horticulture was very popular in Europe at that time. It features a large opening with only a single compartment making it suitable for storing large items. As its purpose was originally for gardening tools, the design keeps the bag lightweight while durable. The variety of materials is one of the appeals of the Garden Party. Its twill canvas is beautiful and durable, and its Negonda leather is perfect for more formal occasions.

Hermès Picotin
The Picotin is a 2003 model inspired by feeder bags used to hold oats for horses. From a storage bag for livestock, the bag incorporates Hermès' design sense for a refined outcome. A standout feature of the bag is its simple, open, and easy-to-use shape. Being compact in design, it is perfect for petite individuals. Don't be deceived by its appearance, though; part of the Picotin's charm is its exceptional storage capabilities. The Picotin comes in four sizes PM, MM, GM, and TGM. In 2008 the Picotin lock was released to much success. It featured the bold addition of a padlock into the design.

Hermès Constance
Released in 1969, the Constance was a favourite of former First Lady of the United States Jacqueline Kennedy, who popularized it among the American public. An iconic element of the Constance's design is the fastener modelled into an H. This makes the bag instantly recognisable as an Hermès product. On the other hand, the bag has a clean design so that it won't be too imposing as an accessory to an outfit. The Constance 24 is a popular size for everyday use, and its Etpsom leather won't let you down.

Hermès Lindy
The Lindy debuted in 2007 and is one of the newest models at Hermès. The name takes inspiration from the 1920s dance, the Lindy Hop. Iconic to the design is the boxy nature of the bag. Also, the handles are placed on the gussets giving an ear-like appearance to the bag. The bag is made in proper Hermès style with traditional metal features. This bag originally came in 26, 30, and 34 sizes. However, in 2019 a mini size was also made available. Due to the recent popularity of mini-sized bags, the Lindy mini is hard to find.

Hermès Bearn
The Bearn is a women's wallet that has been a hit for over 20 years. The wallet gets its name from a region in southwestern France. Featured on the wallet's exterior is the iconic brass H featured in many Hermès designs. The wallet is opened and closed with a central leather flap. From 2000, the iconic brass H is further outlined. Finding a Bearn item in your preferred colour shouldn't be hard with a vast array of available colours. Everyday black and etoupe are popular colours, as well as vibrant gold and rose lipstick.

Hermès Evelyne
The Evelyne is one of Hermès' more popular shoulder bags. First sold in 1978, the Evelyn has undergone numerous redesigns, with the current iteration being popular among a wide range of people. The bag bears a resemblance to a horseshoe, and it is identifiable by its signature perforated H. Even when worn on the shoulder, this bag won't come across as overly casual. The Evelyn comes in four sizes TPM, PM, GM, and TGM, with the largest size, the TGM, being popular with men.

Hermès Herbag
First announced in 1998, the Herbag features a detachable top that can be mixed and matched between Herbags. The Herbag had a short-lived discontinuation in 2006, which ended when the bag returned in 2009. Built with fun in mind, the Herbag features a variety of colours and sizes for maximum mixability. Being able to change the appearance of the bag to suit the day is a sure part of the Herbag's appeal. The intricacy of the craftsman's handiwork is on full display and is a sight to see. The Herbag comes in TPM, PM, MM, and GM sizes, and the larger sizes can even be rearranged into a backpack.

Hermès Fourretout
The Fourre Tout debuted in 1998 and is one of the few Hermès bags made out of canvas. The casual turn for the high-end leather brand was a surprising move for fans. The 3-striped handles are a defining characteristic of this bag. Compared to other Hermès bags, the Fourre Tout has a lower barrier to entry price-wise, so you can be confident in the daily casual use of the bag. The bag also holds a fair amount of popularity among male customers. Unfortunately, the bag was discontinued in 2006. Though based on its still high secondhand value, it's clear it is still popular among Hermès customers.

Hermès Victoria
The Victoria is a 2007 medium-sized duffle bag. Being a high-end duffle bag, this bag has quite a presence. The unique clemence leather leaves this bag feeling lightweight while maintaining a spaciousness only Hermès can provide. The 35-38 sizes are oriented for daily use, while the 43 and 50 are popular travel bags. There is also the medium-sized Victoria Elan and the tall Victoria Cabas.

Hermès Dogon
The Dogon is one of the leading Hermès wallets, and it has similar popularity to that of the Bearn. It has an incredibly simple exterior with none of the characteristic elements of the brand. Still, the quality of the leather exudes an elegance typical of Hermès. The Dogon comes in multiple sizes, each with impressive storage capabilities. The diversity of available colours is another point of appeal. The understated black, in particular, is popular among males.

Hermès Herline
The Herline is a 2000 tote bag by Hermès. It is often compared to the Fourre Tout that proceeded it in 1998. Like the Fourre Tout, the Herline comes in at an affordable price point, making it highly sought-after. The Herline differs from the Fourre Tout in incorporating nylon into its design. The fastener and key design is another point where the Herline differs. The Herline comes in many neutral colours, making it appropriate for business settings. The Herline has been discontinued and is only available at pre-owned goods retailers.

Hermès Azap
The Azap is one of Hermè's more popular wallets, loved for its simple yet spacious design. The Azap has a square design with rounded edges and is minimalist to the extent that it is not immediately recognisable as being Hermès. This clean design makes it a popular choice for men. Appealing points for this wallet include its wide opening, ample space, and numerous compartments. The Azap comes in Classic and Silkin styles. Men prefer the Classic due to its understated, functional design, and the Silkin, with its differing exterior and interior patterns, is perfect for someone looking for something more unique.
