White Gold

White gold is made from 18K or 14K gold. Originally made by blending gold with palladium as a substitute for platinum, it is a precious metal favoured by world-famous high jewellers for its beauty and versatility. ALLU offers the most competitive prices for a wide range of white gold jewellery and accessories, including rings and necklaces of famous brands.

White gold is a white-coloured gold alloy, not to be confused with platinum. White gold is crafted from a base of 24k gold (pure gold). Therefore, the resulting alloy has lower purity of 18k or 14k. When gold alloys are processed into jewellery, they have the added advantage of moderate hardness, which makes it easier to maintain the correct shape and increases resistance to scratches. For example, in the case of 18k white gold engraved with “K18WG,” when composed of 75% gold and the remaining 25% is silver and nickel, the result will be hard white gold. If composed of 25% silver and palladium, it will instead form soft white gold. At this point, the resulting alloy will be whiter than yellow gold, but it is normally plated with rhodium or similar to add a gorgeous white hue. The result is a platinum-like whiteness, but the alloy also circulates in the form called “grey gold,” crafted without plating.

At present, the gold market has been gaining enough momentum to overtake platinum; white gold was originally used to be processed as an alternative to platinum, which is more scarce than gold. The plating may peel off somewhat after prolonged use, but white gold with a grade of 14k, 18k, or higher has value as gold. Therefore, it can be sold in the gold market, and we recommend selling not only white gold with peeled-off plating but also deformed or broken necklaces and even unpaired earrings.

Compared to the past, selling gold is now much more advantageous. At ALLU, we have brick-and-mortar shops worldwide and provide deliveries and home visit services to sell your gold and offer the maximum comfort and convenience to our clients.

We assess gold based on a variety of factors, not just weight!

Gold is commonly calculated by Purity x Weight (grams). However, at ALLU, we consider not only the price of the gold itself but also its 'value as a product', such as the attached gemstones, design, brand, and other factors that are usually not subject to appraisal at our competitors. In addition to popular 18-karat accessories, we also purchase items such as ornaments, antiques, and pure gold with design value at even higher prices.

Customer Testimonials: Selling White Gold at ALLU

  • Icon

My wife was impressed with the customer service.

We got a detailed explanation of the price at the free appraisal, and what they offered for our item was higher than any other store's. I figured the damages to my item would lower its value, but apparently, when it comes to gold items, that's not the case. I was relieved they would take my item at the offered price. My wife was also very impressed with the customer service, which I agree was excellent.

Thank you for selling your White Gold at ALLU.

White gold is, among coloured gold alloys, frequently used in jewellery and is a common alloy in Japanese fashion. White gold is shortened to WG, and the mark on your item was K18WG which stands for 18 Karat white gold. The alloy to make white gold is created by mixing pure gold with silver or palladium. The white lustre is similar to that of platinum, and the lower price of white gold has contributed to its explosion in popularity. It is safe to say that for any given accessory—necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets, etc.—you can find items using white gold. In pre-owned markets, the demand for white gold is stable, and transactions occur at market price. We hope to see you again, even if it is just for an appraisal.

Thank you for the careful assessment and thorough explanation.

It was my first time selling an item to a pre-owned buyer, and the staff seemed like genuine craftsmen and their calm demeanour reassured me. They informed me of the market prices and differences between white gold and platinum, and I'm sure it will be helpful the next time I'm shopping for jewellery. I recommend ALLU as a good place to go for a consultation.

Thank you for selling your White Gold at ALLU.

White gold is the most popular gold alloy with a clean shine that is competitive with platinum in popularity. However, when translated into Japanese, white gold is often confused for platinum, as a literal translation would share the same characters as the word for platinum. In addition, white gold looks similar to platinum, so much so that some people have even tried to pass off cheaper white gold items as being made from the more expensive platinum. Avoiding items without properly authenticating documents is a good way to stay safe from such scams. However, a thorough examination can easily differentiate the two metals, so if there are any other items you need clarification on, please feel free to stop by. We always strive to provide the most competitive offers for these items. Thank you, and we hope to see you again.

Learn About Market Prices and Valuation! White Gold Selling Price FAQ

How is the selling price of white gold determined?

The value of white gold, a white alloy consisting mainly of gold, is determined by its market price, which fluctuates on a daily basis. We carefully weigh the items you bring to us and calculate their value through their market price and weight. However, in cases where the item has excellent design as a piece of jewellery, we may buy the item as a whole, not just for its precious metal.

Can unmarked items be appraised?

If we determine that the item is white gold upon our appraisal, we will buy it as such. However, it may take some time for us to confirm the particulars of the precious metal, such as its specific gravity. Additionally, there may be instances where we are unable to treat it as a precious metal due to the results of our appraisal.

Do scratches and blemishes affect the selling price?

White gold is often made into jewellery like rings, and depending on the condition, we may price the item for its value as scrap metal, which can significantly impact the selling price. In general, though, the item's condition rarely has a large impact on the selling price.

ALLU Frequently Asked Questions

How do you decide the selling price of gold, platinum and other precious metal accessories?

The selling price of precious metals such as gold and platinum is determined according to the 'market price', which is set on a daily basis.
We measure the items you bring to us and derive the appraisal value based on the market price x weight. However, in some cases, if the item possesses an exceptional design as jewellery, we may consider the additional value.

My gold/precious metal does not have any engravings. Can I still get it appraised and sell it?

We can evaluate the item, and if we are able to determine that it is gold, we can purchase it. However, please understand that it may take us some time to check the ratio and other details of the precious metal in question, and there may be cases where we can not proceed with a transaction due to the evaluation.

Can I sell broken items such as broken necklaces, rings with missing stones, or earrings with one pair missing?

We will evaluate the item(s) in question, and if we can determine they are made of precious metals, we can make an offer for them.

How long does it take for an appraisal at the store?

We estimate 10 to 15 minutes for a single item. It depends on the item and the quantity, so please ask our staff when you visit.

Do scratches and stains affect the selling price?

Generally, the condition of the item does not have a major impact.
In the case of ingots, depending on their condition, they may be treated as scrap, which may significantly affect the selling price. For other precious metal products, we will have to actually observe the item in question before making a decision.

Can I sell old coins and foreign gold coins?

If, according to our regulations, we can determine that the item(s) can be treated as precious metals, we can make an offer for them at the best possible price.

Some commemorative and foreign gold coins have a premium value, as they are hard to obtain due to their small circulation. If you bring such gold coins to us, they may be worth more than ordinary precious metals.

When is the best time to sell gold and precious metals?

Compared to past gold market prices, the current prices can be considered quite advantageous, so we believe that the present is a favourable time to consider selling.

However, the market price of gold and precious metals fluctuates daily, so it is very important to notice the timing when the market price is high.

Is the selling price different for ingots and gold jewellery?

Yes, the selling price of ingots and gold accessories is different.
Ingots have their own values and prices: we can make an offer at the ingot price if the brand is recognised in our regulations. On the other hand, even if it is 24-karat gold, gold jewellery is treated as scrap, so that the price will be slightly lower.

Is there a difference in selling price between ingots with and without engraving?

Ingot prices are determinable only for the brands recognised by our regulations. Even if the item in question has the shape of an ingot, if it is not engraved, or if the issuing brand is not one of the recognised brands, there may be cases where it cannot be treated as an ingot.
